Paleo Protein Nuggets

I swear I don’t know how Mum’s and Dad’s with more than one child manage.  I only have the one little bear cub, but since she came along it seems that I have to do twice as much and everything takes me twice as long as.  You’ll often see me holding the bear cub in one arm, a toy in the other and trying to do the dishes with my teeth.  Any way needless to say sometimes I’m desperate for a boost to get me through to the next meal and these babies really hit the spot.  One of my yoga students described them like lumps of cookie dough, in a good way.

½ cup of medjool dates

½ cup of dried pears

½ cup of unhulled tahini

½ cup of almond butter

½ cup dark chocolate chips or raw cacao nibs

¼ cup ground flaxseeds

1 Tablespoon honey

2 scoops chocolate or vanilla protein powder – I use nuZest Clean Lean Protein vanilla

2 Tablespoons of raw cacao powder

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Pinch of salt

1 ½ cups mixed seeds – I use linseeds, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds


Add the dates and the pears to the bowl of a food processor fitted with an ‘S’ blade and pulse until fine chopped.  Add in the remaining ingredients and whizz until well combined and clumping together.  You may need to add a couple of drops of cold water to help it come together, but go cautiously, you don’t want to turn it into a messy slurry.

Dampen your hands with cold water and roll into nuggets.  Enjoy straight away or store in the fridge for emergencies!
